Jyoti was born in Dallas, Texas. She received a degree in English with a minor in math at the University of Texas, and later completed the Professional Editing program at UC Berkeley.
At the age of 26, Jyoti experienced a profound, spontaneous spiritual awakening. She left Texas for the first time and later lived in Seattle, Malibu, Upstate New York, Los Angeles, Maui, San Diego, Marin County, Los Gatos, and Saratoga, CA, where she now resides. Subsequent awakenings occurred in the presence of the Dalai Lama, and throughout the past eighteen years as a student of Adyashanti.
Jyoti’s intuitive training began at Esalen Institute in Big Sur in 1980, where she studied with Angeles Arrien, Ph.D., a cultural anthropologist and author of The Tarot Handbook. During that time, Jyoti also studied astrology at Esalen Institute with Rick Tarnas, Ph.D., author of Cosmos and Psyche. Since then, Jyoti has maintained a private practice offering intuitive counseling for 25 years. Other intuitive training included a year of study with world-renowned Animal Communicator Penelope Smith.
In addition to her intuitive work, Jyoti’s professional experience includes a position as Wildlife Technician at the Westin Maui, and a position as Bird Keeper for the Zoological Society of San Diego. She has edited books for spiritual teachers and authors such as Adyashanti, Jack Kornfield, Peter Russell, Ralph Metzner, and Catherine Ingram.
A member of Mensa with an IQ in the top one percent, Jyoti has worked for the Human Dolphin Foundation, Esalen Institute, Brain/Mind Bulletin, Siddha Yoga Association, Bodhi Tree Bookstore, Harper San Francisco, Origin Press, Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and Open Gate Sangha (Adyashanti’s organization).
